The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater

This book is one of my favorites of all time. In this story a can of paint accidentally is dropped on Mr. Plumbean's house suddenly making it very different from the rest of the very "neat" houses on his street. After much thought, he decides to paint his home and decorate his yard in a way that represents who he is and what all his dreams are. His neighbors are horrified at first, but slowly, one by one, realize the wisdom and joy in the work of art he has created. By the end of the story everyone's home on the street represents who they truly are in every color and shape imaginable! It has truly become a very "NEAT" street.

Abe Lincoln Crosses a Creek

This fictionalized story is about Abrahan Lincoln's long forgotten friend, Austin, who saved his life while he was trying to cross a rushing creek. Even after Abe became president, he remembered his boyhood friend and wished he could see him again. Some of our best friends are from our childhood, friends who have had a great impact on our lives. If it had not been for Austin, Abe Lincoln would never had grown up to become president and saved the country from a life of slavery.
